Whittingham Relinquishes Baton

After nineteen years of service, Major George Whittingham has relinquished his position as conductor of the South London Fellowship Band. Major Whittingham brought a lifetime of experience with brass banding at the highest level, including service as Deputy Bandmaster of the International Staff Band and Bandmaster of the Upper Norwood Band.

Major Whittingham founded the South London Fellowship Band in 1994 and developed it to a standard where it has undertaken many concerts, ministry weekends and tours, as well as making six recordings. He is succeeded as Musical Director by Darrell Scholes, who previously served as the band’s Associate Conductor. Scholes is an accomplished player, conductor and musician with a wide experience of Salvation Army banding.

The Fellowship Band wishes to place on record its grateful thanks and appreciation to Major Whittingham for his devoted and inspired musicianship, leadership and commitment through a long period and wishes him well for the future.
