Farewell from Canadian Staff Band

At the end of another busy season, the Canadian Staff Band (Bandmaster John Lam) was sad to say farewell to Jonathan Rowsell, whose very demanding professional schedule means that he no longer has time to commit to the band’s ongoing ministry.

Originally from St. John’s, Newfoundland, where he completed his master’s degree in music at Memorial University, Rowsell moved to Toronto in 2011 to begin work on his Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Toronto. He joined the Canadian Staff Band tuba section in February 2012.

An enthusiastic composer and arranger, he is also in demand as a brass clinician and teacher, maintaining a busy schedule of private teaching, brass workshops and masterclasses. He can also be heard performing with Brass Roots Brass Ensemble, the Guelph Symphony Orchestra and Hannaford Street Silver Band.

The Staff Band wishes Rowsell well as he continues to serve with his wife, Seritha, at his home corps, London Citadel.
