Boscombe to Norwich for 134th Celebrations

Saturday, 22 October 2016, marked the arrival of Boscombe Band (Bandmaster Howard J. Evans) at Norwich Citadel for the 134th anniversary celebration weekend of Norwich Citadel Band (Bandmaster Richard Woodrow). This was a return visit, as the Norwich band had enjoyed a weekend in Bournemouth the previous year.

The repertoire for the weekend treated the audiences to music that many had not heard for some time. Highlights included Music of Thanksgiving (Kenneth Downie), Glory, Hallelujah! (Kevin Larsson), Starburst (Daniel Price), the cornet duet Synergy (Martin Cordner), the trombone feature Wonders Begin When the Lord Comes In (Ray Steadman-Allen), and Divine Communion (Arthur Gullidge).

On Sunday morning, the weather was kind enough to allow a march of the two bands, massed as one, to Norwich Citadel’s usual area for “Church on the Street”. A receptive crowd gathered as the bands marched and listened as a short service was conducted.
