Newark Building Campaign Boosted by Derby Central Band

The Salvation Army in Newark is currently conducting fund-raising for a building project, and the Derby Central Band (Bandmaster Alan Losh) contributed with a gospel concert held on Saturday, 13 November 2010.

The evening included an extreme mix of types of music, from Simple Gifts to Paean.

Soloists included Ian Hammond (cornet), Shepherd Song; Paul Robins (vocal), We Are the Reason; Ceri Hammond (vocal), Make Me a Channel of Your Peace; and Darren Willis (euphonium), Tros y Garreg.

It was originally planned that the concert include the tuba solo Celestial Morn and the xylophone solo Sparks, but these items were not included because of the illness of some of the members of the band.

Sharon Page spoke about Remembrance Day, as the band would be attending the parade the next day, thinking about people‘s mixed emotions at this time and families putting their trust in God.

The event took place inside the beautiful Methodist Church on Barnby Gate in Newark. The church, exclusive of the balcony, was about filled with people, some attending from Lincoln, Grantham and other surrounding areas.
