Classical Brass
The North York Temple Band (Bandmaster Glenn Barlow) entered somewhat uncharted territory in October, hosting Classical Brass, an evening of all classically-inspired music. The inclusion of three guest soloists, violinist Alessia Disimino, clarinetist Yasmeen Alli, and vocalist Katelyn Byrd, made this night even more out of the ordinary for the band.
Sheridan Featured at London Citadel
Patrick Sheridan, internationally renowned tuba soloist and educator, was the guest soloist for a concert with the London Citadel Band (Bandmaster John Lam) and the London Citadel Songsters, on 26 October 2018.
Red Shield Brass Band First Recording
The Red Shield Brass Band (Conductor Dr. Jonathan Corry) has made its first recording, due for release soon. Entitled Spero per Musica (Hope through Music), the recording programmatically mirrors the essence of the Band – bringing hope to those less fortunate within Chicago through music.
Brisbane Weekend for Melbourne Staff Band
The Melbourne Staff Band (Bandmaster Ken Waterworth) traveled north to Brisbane on the weekend of 19 – 21 October 2018, for a weekend which included concerts, work with young musicians, Sunday morning worship, and a joint appearance with the Brisbane City Temple Band (Bandmaster Tim Green).
Brown Joins Staff Band Bass Section
The Canadian Staff Band (Bandmaster John Lam) has announced the appointment of Staff Band alumnus Robert Brown of Mississauga Temple to the E♭ bass section.
ASB Weekend in Winschoten
The weekend of 27 – 28 October 2018 saw the Amsterdam Staff Band (Bandmaster Olaf Ritman) travel almost as if they were on tour. The band went to Winschoten, Oude Pekela, and Veendam, in the far northeast of the country, almost in Germany. The Winschoten Corps was celebrating its 130th anniversary and had invited the Staff Band to participate in the festivities.

Recorded Piano Tracks for Salvation Army Tune Book
The UK Territory Music and Creative Arts Department and World of Sound have been working hard over the last couple of years to provide recorded piano accompaniments for all of the tunes in the Salvation Army Tune Book. These recordings were released at the recent UK Territorial Congress and are now available for purchase.
SA Band World Magazine Relaunched, Blyth Named Editor
The monthly magazine for Salvation Army brass musicians and bands, SA Bandsman, has been relaunched under the new title SA Band World, and will be published by the publisher of Brass Band World, Kapitol Media Ltd., for its owner, Salvation Army Trading Company Ltd. (SATCoL). Andrew Blyth has been named Editor of the renamed publication.
