On 30 October 2011, a sextet from the National Capital Band braved cold temperatures and an early-morning call time to provide music for the annual Marine Corps Marathon in the Washington, DC area.
The Annual Festival of Heritage Brass (Bandmaster Ian Watkinson) was held at Oshawa Temple Corps on Saturday, 29 October 2011. Special guests were Nicholas Giles, the youthful wunderkind of the euphonium formerly of Norwich Citadel in England, and the Korean Corps Songster Brigade under the leadership of the charismatic Helen Song.
On Sunday, 23 October 2011, the Solent Fellowship Band (Bandmaster John Bird) presented a concert at All Saints’ Church in Portsmouth.
The Boscombe Band (Bandmaster Dr. Howard J. Evans) celebrated its 125th anniversary on the weekend of 22 – 23 October 2011. Special guests for the event were Colonels Robert and Gwyneth Redhead.
On 8 October 2011, the combined forces of the South West Divisional Fellowship Band (Divisional Bandmaster Norman Cassells) and the vocal group Ffortissimo gave a benefit concert at Brisol Easton, raising over £4,400 for The Kenya Trust.
On Saturday, 15 October 2011, the Chicago Staff Band (Bandmaster William Himes) embarked on their first weekend out of the season, to Fond du Lac, WI, where Envoys Beverly and Doug Peterson are the corps administrators.
Internationally renowned trumpeter Chris Jaudes was the guest soloist as the Enfield Citadel Band (Bandmaster Jonathan Corry) presented its 65th Annual Pre-Contest Festival on Friday, 14 October 2011 at St. John’s, Smith Square, London.
The annual “Expressions” concert at Regent Hall is now in its 10th year. The brainchild of Bandmaster Steve Hanover, “Expressions: Creativity in Concert” is held on the Thursday night preceding the Championship Section of the National Brass Band Championships.
