German Staff Band 25th Anniversary

Help for Heroes in Norwich

Norwich Citadel Band (Bandmaster Richard Woodrow) commenced its new season with a Gala Charity Concert on 4 October 2014 at the Citadel. The concert was in aid of Help for Heroes, a popular military-based charity. Special guests for the evening were the Marham Bluebirds Military Wives Choir (Musical Director Rachel Meerwald).   Read more

“Out of Norfolk” Sessions for Norfolk Fellowship Brass

On an unseasonably warm weekend, 24 – 25 October 2014, members of the Norfolk Fellowship Brass (Conductor David Woodrow) gathered for recording sessions. The venue was Mile Cross Methodist Church, Norwich, a sizable building with a good, lively acoustic.  Read more

Sinfonietta

Conducted by Wing Commander Duncan Stubbs, the Central Band of the Royal Air Force has recorded an eclectic mix of items, including several transcriptions of Salvation Army brass band classics.  Read more

A New Dawn

Owen Farr, tenor horn virtuoso, joins with the Cory Band to present a disc comprised entirely of premiere recordings of works for solo tenor horn and brass band.  Read more

Cobb Featured in Pre-Contest Festival

On 10 October 2014, the Enfield Citadel Band (Bandmaster Jonathan Corry) presented its 68th annual Pre-Contest Festival. Guest soloist for this year’s concert was Philip Cobb, principal trumpet of the London Symphony Orchestra. The event, which was compèred by Paul Hindmarsh, was also a tribute to retired Bandmaster James Williams MBE, celebrating his 70 years of association with Enfield Citadel Band.  Read more

Recording Sessions for Birmingham Citadel

The Birmingham Citadel Band (Bandmaster Gavin Lamplough) had three recording sessions in two days, 10 – 11 October 2014, for a new recording with is due out in December 2014. This recording is a mix of old and new, as the band recorded established classic repertoire from Dean Goffin and Bramwell Coles alongside new music from the pens of Paul Sharman and Martin Cordner.  Read more

Expressions 2014

Held this year on 9 October, the annual Expressions concert at Regent Hall is the brainchild of Bandmaster Steve Hanover. It heralds the start of the Brass Arts Festival, which complements the National Brass Band Championships. This year, guests for the evening were Majors Leonard and Heather Ballantine, and Charlie Green, vocal soloist.  Read more
