The USA Central Territorial Music and Gospel Arts Department has announced the Territorial Singing Company Festival 2017. The goal of the Festival is to maximize, improve, and sustain corps participation and the quality of singing companies in each of the territory’s ten divisions, in support of the Live Music by 2020 initiative. Each division is planning a Divisional Music Day where singing companies will be evaluated, with those judged as Exemplary invited to form part of a United Singing Company for the 2017 Family Congress.
On 22 October 2016, the night after a successful concert at Hayling Island, the Solent Fellowship Band held a dinner in celebration of the band’s 20th anniversary. Some 56 or so current and former members, with their partners, sat down in lovely surroundings at the Southampton Sholing Corps.
Saturday, 22 October 2016, marked the arrival of Boscombe Band (Bandmaster Howard J. Evans) at Norwich Citadel for the 134th anniversary celebration weekend of Norwich Citadel Band (Bandmaster Richard Woodrow). This was a return visit, as the Norwich band had enjoyed a weekend in Bournemouth the previous year.
Brilliant autumn sunshine greeted Salvationists and friends as they traveled from across South Wales and gathered in Tenby on 22 October 2016 to celebrate 130 years of the work of the Salvation Army in that town. Morriston Citadel Songsters (Songster Leader Chris Lear) and South and Mid Wales Fellowship Band (Bandmaster Adrian Browning) provided musical support for the day.
The Melbourne Staff Band (Bandmaster Ken Waterworth) salutes the life of Staff Band Reservist Laurie Griffin, who passed away on 22 October 2016. Griffin was a member of the Staff Band for 21 years, transferring to the reserve in 2000. For most of his time in the Staff Band he served as the Band Sergeant.
On 21 October 2016, the Solent Fellowship Band (Bandmaster Dan Redhead) was joined by the Hayling Island U3A Handbell Team for the fourth in a series of “Bells and Brass” concerts at St. Mary’s Church on Hayling Island.
On 1 October 2016, at Guelph Citadel, The Canadian Staff Band (Bandmaster John Lam) joined with the youth band of the Ontario Great Lakes Division, Impact Brass (Bandmaster Philip Rayment) and that band’s feeder group, iGNiTE! Brass (Bandmaster Sarah Rayment), for Brass Fusion, a concert marking the end of a day of music clinics and sectional instruction.
Quintessence, a recording of music by Robert Redhead, has been nominated for the prestigious “Band CD of the Year” by Brass Band World magazine. Fairey Band, directed by John Ward, performed tracks which are a representation of this Salvationist composer’s output.
Salvationist composer Martin Cordner has made five of his recent compositions available to bands free of charge. In return for the music, he requests that donations be made to the user’s local Salvation Army center.
