In March 2005, the [bclink id=”966″ target=”_blank”] of the Salvation Army and the Hythe Town Band joined for their third annual fundraising concert. Several hundred persons from the Hythe community attended the event, which was divided into three parts. Attendees included the Mayor of Hythe and Shepway MP Michael Howard.
The Hythe Corps Band of the Salvation Army began the festivities under the direction of Bandmaster Richard Carroll. Featured soloists in this portion of the program included Songster Leader Wes Carroll on piano, Captain Phil Layton on cornet, and cornet soloist Terry Jackson, who played The Old Rugged Cross.
The second portion of the program featured the Hythe Town Band, and then the third portion consisted of the two groups performing as one ensemble. During the concert, Mr Howard and Mayor Harris presented a plaque, sponsored by the Hythe Corps, congratulating the Town Band on its 125th anniversary.
