The premier Salvation Army band in the Netherlands, the [bclink id=”931″ target=”_blank”], will have new leadership beginning in January 2006. Budget considerations and a desire to have native Dutch leadership in the Netherlands Territory have led to the restructuring of the territorial music department. Bandmaster Howard Evans, who has served as both the Territorial Music Secretary and the bandmaster of the Staff Band, will give up his responsibilities with the music department at the end of the summer, but will stay on as Staff Bandmaster until January 2006. This arrangement will allow a smooth transition of the Staff Band leadership to the new conductor, who, according to one source, has already been chosen.
Evans, who has been in Amsterdam for the past five years, issued a statement during the Staff Band’s recent tour of the UK, in response to a large number of rumors that had been circulating regarding the Staff Band’s future leadership.
