After a long journey north, [bclink id=”959″ target=”_blank”] (Bandmaster Steve Martin) presented a varied programme to an appreciative audience at [bclink id=”1729″ target=”_blank”].
The Festival on Saturday evening (14 May 2005) commenced with Canton Band presenting Fanfare and Flourishes (James Curnow) and they featured Excelsior (Dudley Bright), the festival march Motivation (William Himes) and Gaelforce (Peter Graham), with the major work of the evening being Variations on "Maccabeus" (Kevin Norbury). A number of soloists took part, with Deputy Bandmaster Carl Saunders giving a superb rendering of Heavenly Light (Ivor Bosanko) on the cornet, and there were contributions from Mel Beynon (Euphonium), Mike Saunders (Tenor Horn) and Julian Weaver (Pianoforte). There was a special meditative moment with the playing of Kenneth Downie’s Shekinah, and the programme concluded with the quick march In the Light (Iain Rayner).
Devotional Meetings on the Sunday were led by the Cardiff Canton Band, and at lunchtime, the united bands of Blackpool Citadel and Cardiff Canton marched to the local shopping precinct where many joined in an open-air meeting.
