The 25th anniversary concert for [bclink id=”1001″ target=”_blank”] (Bandmaster Geoff Norton) was held on 26 October 2013 at [bclink id=”1186″ target=”_blank”]. A capacity crowd enjoyed the creative variety of music in the beautiful sanctuary, piloted by the band’s executive officer, Major Greg Simmonds. Local guests for the concert were the O’Neill Collegiate Chamber Choir and [bclink id=”2028″ target=”_blank”], both directed by Erin Collins.
Bandmaster Norton chose music for the band that had associations with many past celebrations, including:
- Milestone (William Himes) – Chicago Staff Band 75th anniversary, 1990
- Celebration (Leslie Condon) – International Staff Band 75th anniversary, 1966
- Fill the World with Glory (Kevin Larsson) – USA Western Territory commissioning, 2010
- Symphony of Thanksgiving (Dean Goffin) – International Staff Band Diamond Jubilee, 1951
The two guest choirs were in excellent form and sang contrasting selections featuring beautiful vocal artistry and youthful expression.
Other items from the band included Prayer of Thanksgiving (William Himes), Fall Afresh (Andrew Mackereth), Swedish Folk Song (arr. Peter Graham), In Christ Alone (arr. Martin Cordner) and the spirited double quartet Joyous Proclamation (Norman Bearcroft). Following the devotional selection, I Know Thou Art Mine (Leonard Ballantine), the Divisional Commander, Lt.-Colonel Susan van Duinen, provided a devotional thought that both challenged and inspired those in attendance.
The final march played by the band was Temple 85 (Norman Bearcroft), which features the tune associated with the words, “He’s the Christ of yesterday, today, forever and He’s mine”. Surely these words are the testimony of each member of Heritage Brass as they strive to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the ministry of music.
