On 10 December 2013, a mild night, the [bclink id=”952″ target=”_blank”] (Bandmaster Yvonne Ferguson) headed to Old Monkland Church, Coatbridge, for a carol concert. A warm welcome awaited them, in more ways than one – the church hall was very warm as well as the greetings from the large crowd that had assembled.
The band played a variety of Christmas music, including A Christmas Intrada, The Shining Star, It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas, A Christmas Bolero and A Christmas Finale.
Daniel McMillan sang What’s Christmas without a Brass Band?, accompanied by the band. Chris Shanks played the euphonium solo Midwinter, his own arrangement for the band. Shanks then joined with Craig Dickie (euphonium) and David Ferguson (E♭ bass) for an entertaining arrangement of Frosty the Snowman. Amy McMillan and Brian Allan presented Hark! the Herald Angels Sing as a piano duet. Finally, Ernest Hamilton sang Who Is He?, also accompanied by the band.
Susan Ferguson shared what Christmas means to her, telling a little about her Christmases past, present and future. The band finished off the program with Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and then Jingle Bells during which a special visitor popped in … Santa!
