A packed house attended the annual Anniversary Concert of Heritage Brass (Bandmaster Bob Gray), on 30 October 2016 at Oshawa Temple. This is always an event that former members attend, and the band was glad to see and greet many alumni. The special guest for the evening was vocalist Bobby Irvine, a Salvationist from Ayr, Scotland. Irvine had been a guest of the band on a previous occasion, so there was great anticipation of hearing him again.
Songs from Irvine included Climb Every Mountain, Bring Him Home, and Love Changes Everything. He impressed the audience with his powerful, controlled voice. He was also joined by Deliah Williams to present the beautiful duet The Prayer.
The band presented a light, balanced program. Four marches were included, Steadily Forward, Salvation’s Song, The Maple Leaf, and The Witness. Deryck Diffey, Keith Bond, and Cliff Cummings played the cornet trio The Veterans. The euphonium solo Love Lifted Me was presented by Gary Dean. Other items from the band were Power Divine, When I’m 64, and William Himes’ arrangement of This Is My Father’s World.
The evening concluded with the Divisional Commander, Lt.-Colonel Sandra Rice, giving a devotional thought before everyone retired to the gymnasium for light refreshments and fellowship.
