NYSB Starts Season with Welcome of Cadets

The New York Staff Band (Bandmaster Derek Lance) was once again privileged to be on duty on 7 September 2018 at the Centennial Memorial Temple in New York City to publicly welcome the Messengers of the Kingdom session as the USA Eastern Territory’s newest cadets. The special guest speaker for the night was the National Commander, Commissioner David Hudson, who brought the Word. This event is always a great way to start the season for the band and it was good to see the cadets answering God’s call on their lives by entering the College for Officer Training.

The Staff Band’s musical contributions for the evening were as follows:

  • Almighty (Roger Trigg)
  • They Shall Come from the East (Kevin Larsson)
  • South Shields Celebration (Martin Cordner)
  • Manhattan (Erik Leidzén)
  • Turris Fortissima (Steven Ponsford)
  • St. Clements (Andrew Blyth)

The Staff Band welcomes two returning members to the solo cornet bench this season. Brian Smith, brother of Warren Smith Jr., returns after a 20-year hiatus. Also returning to the band is Lieutenant Jonathan Quatela to the solo cornet row. Lt. Quatela is the corps officer at the Port Chester, NY Corps.
