Following a number of weeks of uncertainty with regard to the opening of the Derby Playhouse, the Derby Central Corps was able to participate in the annual “Carols for All” program at the Playhouse on 16 December 2007. Derby Central corps officers Majors Ted and Freda Benneyworth led the program, with items included from many of the corps sections. Two very well-attended performance proved how sad it would have been if the annual event had not been held.
The band took centre stage for the performato begin, along with the timbrelists. As the music played, the songsters, young people and primary joined the band on stage, finishing the first piece with a few lines of Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.
A particular favorite during the performance was the nativity, performed by the primary. With recent controversy in the schools, the corps was proud that the children have the opportunity to learn about and re-enact this marked event.
Because of the continuing uncertainity regarding the future of the Derby Playhouse, the total amount collected from ticket sales for this year’s event is not known. The money is usually divided among several charities.
