The [bclink id=”938″ target=”_blank”] (Bandmaster John Lam) has announced the appointment of Staff Band alumnus Robert Brown of Mississauga Temple to the E♭ bass section.
A first-generation Salvationist who came into the Salvation Army through the Scouting program, Brown is from Mississauga, Ontario. He received his early musical training at the Mississauga Temple Corps, taking tuba lessons from Wilfred Dean. He attended the University of Toronto, studying tuba performance with Claudio Engli and Mark Tetreault. Currently, he is a middle school teacher in Mississauga, instucting in physical and health education, and a little bit of music.
Brown originally joined the Canadian Staff Band in 1987, serving for nine years, ending his tenure in 1996. He soldiers at Mississauga Temple Corps with his wife, Janette, and two daughters, Abigail and Madeleine. He is involved in the learner’s program and is co-bandmaster of the Mississauga Temple Band. He also leads the Ontario Central East Divisional Youth Band, a ministry he has led since 2010.
It has been 20 years since Brown was a member of the Staff Band and he is looking forward to once again joining this active, powerful ministry.
The Staff Band expressed great appreciation to Staff Band member Curtis Lupton for his many years of service on E♭ bass and wished him well as he transitions to B♭ bass.
