The [bclink id=”977″ target=”_blank”] (Bandmaster Glenn Barlow) entered somewhat uncharted territory in October, hosting Classical Brass, an evening of all classically-inspired music. This was the first time that the band had attempted a concert of this genre. The inclusion of three guest soloists, violinist Alessia Disimino, clarinetist Yasmeen Alli, and vocalist Katelyn Byrd, made this night even more out of the ordinary for the band. But the aim was the same as always – use the music as a ministry.
The audience was made up of many unfamiliar faces as well as faithful supporters of the band. The music included transcriptions of Bach, Mozart, Wagner, and Rimsky-Korsakov. Highlights included Disimino playing John Williams’ Schindler’s List, Byrd singing Climb Every Mountain, and the band playing Themes from the “New World Symphony”.
All three soloists have connections to North York Temple. Disimino and Alli taught at the corps summer camp, and Byrd grew up singing in the Singing Company.
