On Sunday afternoon, 22 August 2010, the [bclink id=”952″ target=”_blank”] of the Salvation Army (Bandmaster Ian Dickie) travelled to Callander for two Songs of Praise concerts.
The first of the concerts was outdoors in Ancaster Square and was led by Ian Milligan. The band played marches and Scottish music. Solo and ensemble items featured during this performance included My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose played by Yvonne Ferguson (cornet), the euphonium solo Annie Laurie played by Chris Shanks and the trombone and flügelhorn feature I Will Follow Him. A good crowd of people gathered, many asking for favorite hymns which the band played for them.
After the hour-long program in the square, the band headed just a few yards along the main road to Callander Kirk, where they were provided with some refreshments before the second concert, which was held in the Kirk. During this concert the band played several set pieces in between playing favorite hymns selected by members of the audience.
During the second concert, Bandmaster Dickie presented a framed picture of the band, signed by all of the members, to Bandswoman Laura Mitchell. This was Mitchell’s final engagement with the band, as she will be moving down south to attend university in a few weeks.
