New Members for Canadian Staff Band

On 1 December 2010, the Canadian Staff Band (Bandmaster John Lam) announced the addition of two new members.

Mathias Divert was born in Sweden, the child of Salvation Army officers. He studied trumpet at Gothenburg University, the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, and Laval University. He has played with many Salvation Army bands and other ensembles and was the bandmaster at Jonköping, Sweden before coming to Canada. Currently working as a freelance musician, he has a passion for teaching students of all ages to “reach their goals, have fun and glorify God with their music.” Divert currently worships at Mississauga Temple.

Emily Ewing, originally from Peterborough Temple, is currently in her third year of studies at the University of Toronto, where she is taking a double major in English and History. She currently attends North York Temple, where she is actively involved in the corps band. Ewing is the third member of her family to play in the Staff Band, following in the footsteps of her father, Stan, and her sister, Sarah.
