Carol Concert in Abbeydale

The Band and Songsters from the Gloucester Corps (Bandmaster Clifford Matthews and Songster Leader Phil Webb) were once again pleased to be able to share the message of Christmas during their annual Carol Concert at Christchurch, Abbeydale, on 14 December 2010.

Contributions from the band included Christmas Prelude, For Unto Us, In the Bleak Mid-winter, Angels from Glory and Christmas Finale.

The Songsters offered On a Night Like This, Come and Join the Dance, The Lamb and Christmas Bells.

In addition, the “Christmas Crackers” timbrel group performed to Joy to the World.

Throughout the concert readings were given, based on views from those who would have witnessed the birth of Jesus, including Joseph, the Innkeeper, the Shepherds and a thought-based poem of a fourth wise man who did not follow the star and thus missed out on the joy of the real meaning of Christmas. Of course, these are all just a surmise on what each person would have thought, but the challenge to the listener is still there. Are we going to be to busy this year to understand and accept the true meaning of Christmas?

During the evening, the congregation enjoyed singing (with much gusto) a number of well-known carols and everyone was pleased to share fellowship, mince pies, biscuits and beverages after the concert.
