The [bclink id=”961″ target=”_blank”] (Bandmaster Alan Losh) presented a program of music in the lovely St. Martin’s Church on 15 October 2011. After an initial “jacket swapping game” for some of the bandsmen, the festival started. The audience was very appreciative of the music and many people told the members of the band at the interval and at the end of the concert how much the evening had meant to them.
Solo items included offerings from Ian Hammond (cornet) who played What a Friend, Martyn Page (euphonium) who played We’ll All Shout Hallelujah and Paul Robins (vocal) who sang We Are the Reason.
The newest member of the band, David Simpson, gave his testimony. There was also a thought-provoking talk from Colin Sneade.
One thing that will be remembered for some time is the ending of The Pilgrim Way (Eric Ball). About 15 bars from the end of the piece, all the lights in the church went off. The band had roughly five minutes to get their breath back while sitting in the darkness. Just as the ladies of the horn section were about to start singing “You Are the Light” the fault was corrected and the band was able to complete the performance.
