On Sunday, 23 October 2011, the [bclink id=”1007″ target=”_blank”] (Bandmaster John Bird) presented a concert at All Saints’ Church in Portsmouth.
The concert commenced with a march, Wonderful Day (Steven Ponsford), and then, in contrast, A Little Prayer (Evelyn Glennie, arr. Robert Childs).
Bandmaster Bird welcomed everyone to the concert, after which the band played a selection from Jesus Folk (arr. Ray Steadman-Allen) and two songs from the shows, Can You Feel the Love Tonight? (Elton John and Tim Rice, arr. Frank Bernaerts) and Love Changes Everything (Andrew Lloyd-Webber, arr. Stephen Bulla).
Three individual items were included in the program. Steve Jones (principal trombone) played Count Your Blessings (Brindley Boon). Derek Jordan’s arrangement of the Rondo from Mozart’s 4th horn concerto was offered by principal tenor horn Callam Carter. Finally, Adrian Griffiths (vocal) sang He Took My Place (Vernon Post).
Other items included The Trumpet Shall Sound, featuring Tony Unwin (euphonium) and Aubrey Ford (soprano cornet); The Blessing (William Himes); Praise Party (Steven Ponsford); and two band songs.
As part of a time for reflection, Major Derek Smith read some words of Scripture and the band played Dean Goffin’s meditation The Light of the World.
The concert concluded with the band playing The Liberator (George Marshall).
