ISB Begins Year in Scotland

The first away weekend of 2012 for the International Staff Band (Bandmaster Stephen Cobb), 28 – 29 January, was to Bellshill Corps in Scotland. This visit was indeed a first for the ISB, and a good crowd gathered on a cold Saturday evening for the concert.

As always, there was a mixed program from the band. This included the “new”, represented by Life Ablaze (Stephen Ponsford); the “nearly new”, represented by Pursuing Horizons (Dudley Bright) and music a bit older, represented by California (Emil Söderström). The finale, Fire in the Blood (Paul Lovatt-Cooper) had its continuing rousing reception.

The Sunday meeting and concert were held at Bellshill Academy, and were again very well attended. A highlight for many was the Staff Band’s performance of The Present Age (Leslie Condon).

The Staff Band expressed its thanks to Bandmaster Ian Dickie and his team from Bellshill for the fine arrangements surrounding the weekend.
