On the weekend of 21 – 22 April 2012, the [bclink id=”943″ target=”_blank”] (Bandmaster Ronald Waiksnoris) had a unique opportunity to have an ministry weekend in their own “backyard”. On Saturday, the Staff Band played a concert at White Plains Presbyterian Church and on Sunday morning participated in worship at Queens Temple.
The Saturday evening concert opened with War Cry (Dorothy Gates). The Staff Band was then welcomed by the Divisional Commander of the Greater New York Division, Lt.-Colonel Guy Klemanski, followed by fine rendition of Erik Leidzén’s festival march Pressing Onward. Other items featured on the program included the cornet solo Blessings, the cornet quartet The Messengers and the euphonium solo Carrickfergus.
The Staff Band was pleased to share the stage with the White Plains YP Band for Young Crusaders. The White Plains Singing Company was also featured in two items.
Again featured by the Staff Band were Peter Graham’s Voyage to Worlds Unknown and Paul Lovatt-Cooper’s Fire in the Blood. These pieces have been extremely popular during this year and both received standing ovations on this occasion.
Sunday morning brought the Staff Band to the Queens Temple Corps. This was the first time that the band has visited Queens Temple, a Hispanic corps which has grown to be the largest corps in the USA Eastern Territory. Right from the outset of the meeting the excitement, joy and sense of family could be discerned. On this particular Sunday, 37 new soldiers were enrolled (17 senior, 20 junior). Items from the Staff Band included dThe Messengers, Valero, Pastorale, Fire in the Blood, and Lift Up Your Voice. Also featured during the worship service were the Queens Temple Singing Company, YP Band, and Worship Band.
