The [bclink id=”938″ target=”_blank”] (Bandmaster John Lam) announced, on 26 September 2012, some personnel changes for its new season.
The Staff Band said farewell to Serena Doars, who found that she was unable to continue with the group and stepped out at the end of the summer. Doars joined the band in 2005 and was a valued member of the cornet section as well as the leader of the new timbrel section. The Staff Band wished her well as she continues to serve at her home corps, London Citadel.
The Staff Band also announced that Major Ted Kimmins would not continue as the band’s Endowment Officer. A charter member of the band, Kimmins played E-flat bass from 1969 through 1975. In 2007, he returned in a very special capacity, working hard to lay the groundwork for a CSB Endowment Fund that, when fully realized, will make hte band financially self-sufficient for years to come and allow the group to visit smaller centers throughout the territory that otherwise could not afford to host a weekend engagement. Kimmins also traveled with the band and documented many of its excursions with photographs. The Staff Band wished him well as he continues in retirement at his home corps, Oshawa Temple.
On another note, the Staff Band was pleased to officially welcome back percussionist Gordon Mayer. Mayer previously played percussion in the Staff Band with Kevin Wilson from 1987 through 1992, and since 2009 has been helping out on a part-time basis. He has now been re-appointed to the band officially.
