Albert Elms (1920 – 2009) was a pioneering contributor of incidental music for television and film in the 1950s and 1960s and also a composer of military music.
The Battle of Tragalgar was composed following a chance meeting with the Principal Director of the Royal Marines School of Music, who remarked that he was weary of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture and requested “something about Trafalgar”. The work was first performed at the 1974 Royal Tournament. An orchestral version was performed in St. Paul’s Cathedral in 1981. This abridged arrangement was made at the request of Robert Childs for Cory Band and was recorded for the album Cory in Concert Volume II.
