The march prelude received its first full public performance in New York on 8 March 2015 as the opening item of the Profile 36 concert featuring the music of David Catherwood. As well as the inclusion of the hymn “How firm a foundation” (St. Denio) as the second theme, the original music comprising the trio section of the march was used as the processional during the recent wedding of the composer’s daughter.
A performance of the piece by the Greater New York Youth Band can be heard here: http://livestream.com/salvationarmynewyork/events/3844970 starting around 12:05.
The band parts are scored for soprano cornet, first and second cornets, flügelhorn, first and second horn, baritone, first and second trombone, bass trombone, E♭ and B♭ bass, and percussion.
