NYSB Launches New Signature and Heritage Series

The New York Staff Band and the USA Eastern Territory Music Department have launched two new music series, the Signature Series and the Heritage Series. The Signature Series replaces the Music Department’s current Triumphonic Collection. It will feature three new pieces each year. The Heritage Series will consist of reprints of popular pieces from the American Band Journal that are out of print. It will feature one piece per year.

Enfield Pre-Contest Festival Features Fountain and Cordner

Enfield Citadel Band (Bandmaster Don Jenkins) returned to St. John’s, Smith Square, for this year’s Pre-Contest Festival. The concert featured James Fountain (cornet/trumpet) as guest soloist and Major Martin Cordner as compère, guest conductor, and featured composer.

Star Lake Musicamp 2017

Star Lake Musicamp 2017, with special guests Majors Martin and Leanne Cordner and Songster Leader Marjory Watson, was held 12 – 20 August 2017. A record enrollment of 200 students, supported by 65 staff, participated in three majors, with five bands, five choruses, and no less than 17 electives, with the theme Wake up the Saint.

Cordner Releases Five Recent Compositions

Salvationist composer Martin Cordner has made five of his recent compositions available to bands free of charge. In return for the music, he requests that donations be made to the user’s local Salvation Army center.

Corry to Chicago

The Enfield Citadel Band announced on 6 September 2016 that its Bandmaster, Dr. Jonathan Corry, has relinquished his leadership of the band and will be taking up an appointment as Director of Music and Gospel Arts for the Chicago Metropolitan Division in the USA Central Territory. No successor was immediately named for the conductor’s post at Enfield.

Cobb Featured in Pre-Contest Festival

On 10 October 2014, the Enfield Citadel Band (Bandmaster Jonathan Corry) presented its 68th annual Pre-Contest Festival. Guest soloist for this year’s concert was Philip Cobb, principal trumpet of the London Symphony Orchestra. The event, which was compèred by Paul Hindmarsh, was also a tribute to retired Bandmaster James Williams MBE, celebrating his 70 years of association with Enfield Citadel Band.

NYSB Massachusetts Ministry Weekend

On the weekend of 16 – 18 November 2018, the New York Staff Band (Bandmaster Derek Lance) traveled to the Massachusetts Division for a ministry weekend that included stops in Worcester, Canton, Boston, and Brockton. Brass for GOSH Launched

The London Central Fellowship Band (Bandmaster David Rudd) launched their latest recording with a concert at Regent Hall on 17 November 2018. Just under 300 people were in attendance for a fantastic night of music-making, raising funds for the Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) Charity. All of the profits realized by Citadel Promotions, the producers, will benefit the hospital charity, leading to the title of the recording, Brass for GOSH. Read more
