Thanks for Giving Concert 2018

The Salvation Army’s National Capital Area Command held its second annual “Thanks for Giving” concert on Sunday, 11 November 2018, at the Rachel Schlesinger Hall on the campus of Northern Virginia Community College in Alexandria, Virginia. This seasonal concert has three themes: honoring military service and sacrifice (Veterans Day), giving thanks (Thanksgiving), and the kickoff of the Christmas season. The concert featured the National Capital Band (Bandmaster Dr. Steve Kellner) and noted gospel singer Anthony Brown and his ensemble, group therAPy.

National Capital Band Supports Soldiers Rally

The rally was held at the Montgomery County (Maryland) Corps on Sunday, 30 September 2018. Special guests for the evening were the comedy duo Bean and Bailey.

National Capital Band Retreat and Personnel Changes

National Capital Band in Northern Virginia

The National Capital Band (Bandmaster Dr. Steve Kellner) has a long-standing relationship with the Northern Virginia Adult Rehabilitation Center (NOVARC), beginning with the dedication of the facility over twenty years ago. In lieu of their regular rehearsal on Monday, 7 November 2016, the band gave a concert at the center.

The Southern Territorial Band (Bandmaster Nick Simmons-Smith) (STB) and Territorial Creative Arts Ensemble (Director Bethany Farrell) (TCAE) toured the National Capital and Virginia (NCV) Division, Wednesday 12 – Saturday 16 October 2016, with the featured event the Music Councils, entitled “Highest Praise”, held at Camp Happyland. Steadily Forward March! in Alexandria

On Sunday afternoon, 2 October 2016, the National Capital Area Command (NCAC) held a Soldier’s Rally at the Alexandria Citadel Corps. A wide variety of music and creative arts groups from around the area were featured, anchored by the National Capital Band (Bandmaster Dr. Steve Kellner). The theme of the rally was “Steadily Forward March!”, with the program being divided into sections focusing on the past, present, and future of the Salvation Army.

NYSB Massachusetts Ministry Weekend

On the weekend of 16 – 18 November 2018, the New York Staff Band (Bandmaster Derek Lance) traveled to the Massachusetts Division for a ministry weekend that included stops in Worcester, Canton, Boston, and Brockton. Brass for GOSH Launched

The London Central Fellowship Band (Bandmaster David Rudd) launched their latest recording with a concert at Regent Hall on 17 November 2018. Just under 300 people were in attendance for a fantastic night of music-making, raising funds for the Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) Charity. All of the profits realized by Citadel Promotions, the producers, will benefit the hospital charity, leading to the title of the recording, Brass for GOSH. Read more
