Together Nominated for Classical BRIT Award

The Salvation Army’s Together album, which went on sale for Christmas last year, has been nominated for a Classical BRIT Award.

Together features music from the International Staff Band of the Salvation Army (Bandmaster Stephen Cobb) and includes a range of classical, secular and religious tracks, and contributions from Lesley Garrett, Aled Jones and the Fron Male Voice Choir. The album is on the Universal Music label, the world’s leading record company and musical home of artists like Take That and Duffy.

Together is one of ten albums nominated in the Classical BRIT Award’s NS&I Album of the Year 2009 category. The nominated albums are officially the top 10 selling classical albums of 2008, as complied by the Official Charts company.

The public are invited to vote for their favourite album by going to www.classicalbrits.co.uk/voting. Voting closes at midnight on May 1st and the winners will be announced on May 14 at The Classical BRIT Awards 2009 which will take place at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

“Over the past few months, the Together album has meant that many more people have experienced and enjoyed their music. Together has also given the Salvation Army an increased profile and importantly, sales are resulting in money being donated to the work of the Salvation Army. These are uncertain times and as increasing numbers of people in need turn to us for help we need to keep raising awareness of our work and raising money to help us help others. We are always so grateful to the public, without whom we would be unable to sustain much of what we do.”

Together features a collection of secular and religious tracks from Nessun Dorma, You Raise Me Up, Let it be and Going Home (the Hovis theme) to Make Me a Channel of Your Peace and When I Survey the Wondrous Cross.

Royalties from this major record label collaboration are going to the work of the Salvation Army in the UK and Ireland, which includes work with homeless people and those suffering from addictions, older people, families, children and young people.
