At the end of the 2008–2009 season, the Canadian Staff Band (Bandmaster John Lam) bade farewell to three veteran members of the band.
Percussionist Ron Reid was an almost permanent fixture with the Staff Band for a period of 32 years. Ron’s contributions, with colleague Stan Ewing, have kept audiences spellbound during innumerable live performances. In addition to his talent as a percussionist, Ron could often be found in Sunday school suring Staff Band corps visits, entertaining young people with his skills as a magician, always with a spiritual point. Ron will continue with his ministry as bandmaster at Peterborough Temple.
Michael Stayner first joined the Staff Band for the 1998–1999 season. He then left for work in London, England, where he was a member of the International Staff Songsters. When he returned to Canada he rejoined the Staff Band in 2003 and has now completed seven years of service. Michael was a versatile member of the band, having been called on to play trombone, baritone and euphonium. He also used his skills as a piano soloist. Michael will continue his ministry as a part of the musical forces at Oshawa Temple.
Derek Ritson joined the horn section of the Staff Band in 2001, just in time for the tour of Australia and New Zealand. He leaves the band after eight years of distinguished service, and will also continue his ministry at Oshawa Temple.
